Description

U-Seal 500 single-component polyurethane multi-application sealant - NPT

U-Seal 500 is a single-component, multi-application, elastic polyurethane adhesive and sealant that can be extruded with ordinary sealant guns without pouring.

It cures under the influence of atmospheric moisture to form a high-performance elastic adhesive with permanent elasticity and resistance to aging and weathering.

Certified according to:

  • EN 15651-1 / 4 TIPO F INT / EXT / PW INT / EXT

Conforms to:

  • ISO 11600 Type F Class 25 Subclass HM
  • LEED iEQc 4.1; SCAQMD Rule 1168; BAAQMD Reg 8 Rule 51

Fields of application

U-Seal 500 is a versatile, high-performance elastic bonding and sealing adhesive for use in elastic bonding and sealing applications, including between dissimilar materials, in construction and industrial, automotive, transportation, and marine assembly, where a strong flexible rubber joint or a powerful elastic adhesive is required.

Suitable for sealing joints in vertical and horizontal applications, replaces rivets and mechanical fasteners, seals metal roofing joints and gutters.

Features

  • Paste and seal at the same time
  • Permanently elastic; allows ± 25% joint movement
  • Easy to apply with excellent consistency for finishing
  • Good thixotropy, non-sagging
  • Resistance to shock and impact
  • Vibration and sound damping properties
  • Excellent primerless adhesion to all typical building and industrial materials
  • Elastic bonding between metal, plastic, glass and other materials
  • Non-staining. Neutral behavior, does not attack the bonding surface
  • Good resistance to aging, weathering and cleaning agents, seawater, brackish water
  • Overpaintable with most water- and solvent-based paints (preliminary testing recommended)

Application

Surfaces to be adhered must be perfectly clean, dry and free of dust and grease.

U-Seal 500 has excellent adhesion properties without the use of primer on most common building materials.

Consequently, the use of primer is not necessary if the substrate to be sealed is properly prepared and consolidated.

However, varieties of brick, natural stone, plastics, paints, coatings, and other treatments often present a difficult surface to adhere to.

Due to the number of unpredictable natures of these substrates, preliminary testing is recommended.

Precast panels using release agents other than polyethylene film should be mechanically sanded or abraded and free of dust.

Recommended application temperatures: 15°-25°C.

For easier use or application at lower temperatures, it is recommended to store the material at a temperature of about 25°C before use.

To ensure free circulation of the sealant in the joints, it is imperative that the sealant does not adhere to the bottom of the joint, so a closed-cell polyethylene bead (backing rod) should be placed at the proper depth for proper jointing.

If necessary, apply an appropriate primer to the sides of the joint and observe the waiting time to prevent trapped solvent from creating bubbles in the uncured sealant under rising temperature conditions.

For best performance, the sealant should be sprayed into the joint when the joint gap is at the midpoint of its designed expansion and contraction.

Extrude the sealant firmly into the joint making sure it is in full contact with the sides of the joint and the support rod at the bottom.

Keeping the nozzle in the sealant, continue with a steady flow of sealant following the nozzle to prevent air entrapment.

Avoid overlapping of the sealant to eliminate air entrapment.

Smoothing and finishing should be done within the skin time of the sealant.

U-Seal 500 can be overpainted. The paint should be tested for compatibility by conducting preliminary tests.

Care should be taken with the use of alcohols or alkyd resins as they may interfere with the curing process of the sealant and reduce the drying time of the paint itself.

The hardness and thickness of the paint film can affect the elasticity of the sealant and lead to the breakdown of the paint film.

Do not cure in the presence of cross-linking silicone sealants.

Avoid contact with solvents during curing.

When applying the sealant, avoid air entrapment.

Since the system cross-links with moisture, allow sufficient exposure to air.

Equipment cleaning and personal protection

Clean used tools with acetone or solvent.

When the adhesive has not yet cured, it can be removed using paper or a cloth. Once cured, the product can only be removed mechanically.

Avoid skin contact by using latex, rubber or polyethylene gloves.

If it comes in contact with skin, remove immediately and wash with soap and water.

Product storage

U-Seal 500 can be stored for 12 months in the original packaging.

Storage temperature between 10°C and 25°C in a cool, dry room.

Keep away from sources of moisture, heat sources and direct sunlight contact.
